North Hertfordshire District Council have confirmed that 213 local businesses will benefit from Discretionary Grant funding. The Discretionary Grants were introduced by Government after some hard work from local MP, Bim Afolami, who came up with a proposal to use surplus support funds held by local authorities to benefit businesses not covered by initial schemes, which was then adopted by the Government.
Welcoming the news, Bim said, "I developed a way in which local authorities could help local businesses who have been financially impacted due to the coronavirus pandemic but were not eligible for previous government support schemes - providing councils with excess grant funding.
I'm pleased that North Herts District Council (NHDC) has recently announced that it will be paying out over £1.3 million in discretionary grants to over 200 small businesses in North Herts.
A total of 281 businesses applied, 213 qualified and NHDC has awarded funding to all of them. Brilliant news!"
