The option for an incinerator to be built on land at East Hyde, just north of Harpenden on the Lower Luton Road, has expired. This comes after hard work from local residents, councillors, the Stop Harpenden and Luton Incinerator campaign and Hitchin & Harpenden MP Bim Afolami.
Bim said, "I am delighted to hear that the 'option agreement' for the proposed incinerator on the Lower Luton Road at East Hyde has now lapsed.
I have been campaigning on this since 2018 - whether it be the detrimental environmental impact, the odour from the incinerator or the extensive noise and traffic disruption that would have blighted lower Luton Road, I could not see any positive aspect of the plans for Hertfordshire residents.
A huge well done to the Stop Harpenden and Luton Incinerator group, local councillors and local volunteers who have helped to make this a reality."
