Deputy Mayor, Councillor Sandra Wood, raised £114 in this year’s St Albans Half Marathon: a ‘virtual’ half marathon in place of the usual one, which was cancelled due to COVID-19.
The money raised has been given to the Mayor’s charity for this year - the St. Albans & Hertsmere Women’s Refuge.
“I was challenged to do something healthy and physical for 13 times,” said the Deputy Mayor. “I chose to cycle 13 circuits of Wheathampstead High Street, from The Swan down to the roundabout at the end of Station Road and back again. I completed the challenge on one of the hottest days of the year
but it was well worth it for a very deserving charity.”
Cllr. Wood’s term as Deputy Mayor should have ended in May this year. However, because of the COVID pandemic the election of County Officials for 2020-21 had to be postponed and she was asked to continue as Deputy Mayor for a further year.
